What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community?
First and foremost it’s the family feel that we have which is surrounded by positivity. And then, seeing the fighting spirit of the underdogs in their tangerine jerseys on game day
Why the Mavericks?
Because soccer is the world’s game, and I refuse to let cost be a barrier for kids to play. I know how important the game is to me (still), and I hope it does the same for others as a long-term passion and vehicle for the greatest memories and friendships. There is NOTHING better than this game!

What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks Community?
Culture - The Mavericks are more than a club—we are a community. Everyone is aligned: coaches, parents, and players all sharing the same values and love for the game. It creates a special environment where kids feel supported, confident, and free to be themselves. Being part of that every day is why I love coaching here.
Why the Mavericks?
It’s simple: the environment and the culture. I have been here since the beginning, and from day one the culture and vibe have been vibrant, fun, and truly connected. That energy carries beyond the field—every year there’s more tangerine in our house, from shoes and jackets to hats, tees, and bags. It’s more than a club to us; it’s part of who we are.

What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community?
What I enjoy most is the people… the families, coaches, staff, and players who make this community truly special. It’s a privilege to be part of something where everyone shows up because they want to be here. Our coaches and staff volunteer their time, and our parents and players commit their energy and effort not out of obligation or payment, but out of genuine passion and connection.
In a time when it’s rare to see people come together purely for community, the Mavericks stand out. To be part of a club built on shared purpose, centered around this incredible sport, and giving the next generation a place to grow and belong that’s deeply fulfilling.
And quite simply, having my family and friends woven into this community makes it feel like home.
Why the Mavericks?
The Mavericks’ commitment to removing financial barriers is meaningful and transformative. It opens doors for families who might never have had the chance, supports kids who want to grow in multiple areas, and creates a template for the sport to evolve at the youth level in this country. Mavericks FC represents what’s possible when access comes first, and excited to be part of it.

Katy Britto
Club Administrator, Co-Club Director, Board Member
Joined the Mavericks in 2021
My husband and I have been active in coaching our kids soccer teams since they were very little. While he did most of the coaching duties, I did more of the wrangling and parent communication. Once we joined the Mavericks, I moved into more of a team management role and in 2023 took over all the administrative responsibilities for the team, from carding players and coaches and ensuring all coaches meet requirements to securing field space and managing communication through other team managers.
What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community?
The Mavericks Football Club is more than just a place for our kids to play soccer. It is a community. The relationships my family has built by being part of this club are ones we will have for years to come. There is no doubt that we have the best coaches, but we also have the best families too.
Why the Mavericks?
I serve the Mavericks because I love the mission of the club. I love how it pulls together families from all over Charlotte. I love the relationships I have built with not only the coaches and staff and families on my kids teams, but the families on all the Mavericks team. It is a family and I am proud to be part of helping making it happen!

What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community
Coaching in general is a passion. So getting to do it with my friends and teammates is an added bonus. I've been part of a lot of clubs, and Mavs has the absolute best intentions for the players in my opinion.
Why the Mavericks?
I love coaching. I love the kids. I love that my 3 boys can see my love for it all, and it makes them want to be part of it and maybe follow in my footsteps one day. I love the Mavs family and what they stand for. I don't think I would coach anywhere else other than

What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community?
I cannot imagine my life without the game of soccer, it's a huge part of my identity and has shaped who I am in countless ways. Soccer has given me opportunities to grow on and off the field through every stage of my life. As a coach with the Mavericks, I’m grateful for the chance to give back to the game that has given me so much. I've always believed in soccer as a universal language and love helping kids see the game as a common denominator to connect with people literally worldwide. A soccer ball has the power to bring people together and create connections that last a lifetime. I love that soccer naturally teaches transferable skills that shape strong, confident, and compassionate kids and so much of that is possible because of the values that we instill in the environments we create as coaches. Coaching to me is a privilege and I enjoy the opportunity to support kids valuing teamwork, the importance of integrity, resilience, and communication. Soccer has shaped my life in incredibly positive ways, and I’m honored to help be a small part of the experiences of young athletes who are just beginning their soccer journey.
Why the Mavericks?
The focus on access and removing barriers is everything. The pay to play model is a beast and can unfortunately create barriers and unintended exclusion for kids, many of whom are natural born gifted athletes that just need space and opportunity to play the game they love. I am proud of the Mavericks mission, the history and origin story and the present-day commitment of keeping the joy of the game front and center. Most importantly the values demonstrated throughout the Mavericks club mirror my own personal values and the values that I hope are reflected in my family. The coaches and families involved in the Mavericks are top‑notch, just genuinely good people who make it all worth it.

I have been playing for over 40 years now at this stage! As a kid I would bring a ball everywhere.....and I still continue to play regularly now, play for our Mavs over 40 team on a Sunday here in Charlotte and we went undefeated for the 2025 fall season! I have been a coach for over 10 years with certifications from the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) and then more recently from US Soccer. In Ireland I played at schoolboy age with St Josephs Boys FC and then played intermediate senior football for a couple of local clubs. I have also played amateur club soccer for teams in Australia, New Zealand, England, Canada, Spain and now the USA!

What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community?
To me football is not just a game, it's a way of life and everyone involved at Mavs thinks that way too and that the magic of Mavs for me. We all want to spread the love of the game and we all recognize the importance of not making youth soccer a money making business. I have travelled and worked in different countries and football always opens many doors for me and creates lasting memories and life long friends. Football should be accessible for all people and cost should not be a barrier, in most other countries football is for the community, not for business.... and mavs get that. Also football is first about fun and enjoyment, getting to play at a higher level and progressing to a high skill level is a secondary bonus. So as a coach, yes I develop players and help improve, but first I like to make sure the environment is positive and that is why I love the Mavs, the club has a great culture and I'm delighted to be a small part of it.
Did you kniow?
I'm from Ireland! Football is all about community in Ireland, I grew up with our local football club 'Joeys Sallynoggin' being part of our family life, my dad was the club treasurer and team manager/coach for many years and we used to do fundraising and other events to help fund the club. Most weekends growing up would be spent in or around the club. Going to or playing games. A fun fact would be that when I was 7, 8, or 9 I was probably not very good!....but I got much better as I kept trying, turning up and playing at every opportunity! Practice, practice, practice....

Joined the Mavericks in 2021
Played in high school and club soccer in college. Has coached rec soccer for 6 to 7 years and joined the Mavericks as assistant with 2011 Boys in 2021.
What do you enjoy most about coaching or serving the Mavericks community?
I was positively impacted by many of the coaches that I had across multiple sports growing up. Their words of encouragement and constructive feedback helped me focus my energy. It has been amazing for me to pay it forward. What I really enjoy is seeing the boys discover a weakness (in a practice or game) and then work with them to overcome that area in their game. It is a great way for them to build resilience. Lessons learned on a soccer field (including: diligent practice, hard work and teamwork) are lessons that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.
Why the Mavericks?
The commitment by the coaches, managers, parents and kids is contagious. Being part of a movement (Forza Mavs) that builds all players regardless of their financial wherewithal is truly unique.

I bleed tangerine, and the Mavericks community truly feels like one big family. Everyone who wears the Mavs badge understands what it means to be part of this incredible football club. What makes our club unique is that we don’t just focus on developing strong soccer players—we focus on developing great people. We value attitude, effort, and a genuine willingness to grow. At the Mavericks, character matters just as much as skill, and every player is encouraged to become the best version of themselves on and off the field.
Why the Mavericks?I believe that competitive soccer should be accessible to every player, not just those who can afford high fees. No athlete should have to pay thousands of dollars for the opportunity to develop, compete, and grow in the sport they love. That’s why I fully support the Mavericks’ mission and the way the club has reshaped the mindset of youth soccer. I’m passionate about ensuring that competitive soccer remains a sport for all players—driven by talent, effort, and opportunity rather than financial barriers
